What is ekstrakt?
Public YouTube video transcripts turn into structured reading materials in seconds, bypassing the need to watch two-hour lectures, forty-minute tutorials, or multi-hour podcast episodes. Instead of scrubbing timelines or sitting through sponsor messages, viewers paste a URL or use an in-page browser extension to pull out the exact data points they need.
Four summary depths for every video
ekstrakt streams text in real time right beside the video player. Users choose between four distinct summary types depending on their current goal. The short mode provides core takeaways in a few sentences, while the detailed mode builds a section-by-section breakdown of the entire conversation. When a video title asks a direct question, the straight-to-answer mode isolates the conclusion without the surrounding filler. Finally, the ask-a-question mode lets viewers interrogate the transcript directly, retrieving specific quotes and timestamped claims grounded in what the speaker actually said.
Web app and browser extension access
The tool operates across multiple environments. The web app accepts any public video link and pairs the generated summary with a fully searchable transcript. Meanwhile, the Chrome extension places a summary panel directly on the YouTube watch page, allowing users to switch between summary modes and jump straight to specific code snippets or talking points without ever leaving the active tab. Supported outputs extend to twenty-two languages, letting users process foreign content into readable text instantly.
