Every number on this page comes from a primary source — the original study, report, or dataset — with the publisher and publication year printed next to it. Each source was opened and checked before publication, and the whole page is re-verified quarterly. No aggregator hand-me-downs, no undated “studies show.”

SaaS Market & the AI Building Boom
AI collapsed the cost of building software. The result is a flood of new products chasing flat demand — the market context every distribution decision now lives in.
The global SaaS market is valued at $315.68 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $375.57 billion in 2026, on an 18.7% CAGR toward $1.48 trillion by 2034 (Fortune Business Insights).
SaaS market-size estimates vary by firm and definition; Fortune Business Insights sits mid-range among major research houses.
Source: Fortune Business Insights, 2026 ↗There were more than 30,800 SaaS companies worldwide at the start of 2025, over 17,000 of them in the United States — roughly 60% of the global market (Ascendix, citing Statista data).
Counts vary widely by methodology — estimates run as high as ~72,000 when AI-focused startups are included.
Source: Ascendix Tech, 2026 ↗Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in April 2026 that 75% of Google's new code is now generated by AI, up from just 25% eighteen months earlier (reported by DevOps.com).
Company self-reported figure; Google measures AI-generated code by accepted characters, not shipped features.
Source: DevOps.com, 2026 ↗The vibe coding market is projected to grow from $7.06 billion in 2026 to $15.52 billion by 2031, a 17.06% CAGR (Mordor Intelligence).
Vibe-coding market sizing is young and definitions differ sharply between research firms — other 2025 estimates range from $2.96B to $6.2B.
Source: Mordor Intelligence, 2026 ↗AI app builder Lovable crossed $100 million in ARR just eight months after launch, with more than 2.3 million active users and 180,000 paying subscribers (TechCrunch, July 2025).
Source: TechCrunch, 2025 ↗80% of builders on Lovable self-identify as non-technical, according to the company's 2026 'build economy' report covering more than 50 million projects created on the platform (via The Next Web).
Self-reported platform data from Lovable's own usage logs plus a May 2026 user survey; not independently audited.
Source: The Next Web, 2026 ↗Developers submitted 557,000 new apps to Apple's App Store in 2025, a 24% jump over 2024 and the first meaningful increase in new releases since 2016 (Appfigures).
Appfigures attributes the surge largely to AI-assisted development tools like Cursor, Replit, Bolt, and Lovable collapsing the barrier to shipping.
Source: Appfigures, 2025 ↗While new app releases surged, downloads of the top 10 apps fell 2% year over year in December 2025 — 320 million versus 327 million a year earlier (Appfigures).
Supply of new apps is exploding while consumer demand stays flat — the same report shows top-10 app revenue up nearly 30% year over year, signaling consolidation.
Source: Appfigures, 2026 ↗51% of 195 surveyed B2B software go-to-market leaders planned to increase budget for AI search optimization (AEO) — the top area of new GTM investment heading into 2026 (Growth Unhinged, 2025 State of B2B GTM report).
Respondents skew toward $1–10M ARR, US-based SaaS companies, making it a close proxy for founder-led GTM budgets.

Customer Acquisition & First Users
What actually produces the first users: benchmarks for cold outreach and communities, and the real cost of acquiring a customer before you have a brand.
Across 7.5 million cold emails sent in 2025, the average reply rate was just 0.45% of emails sent, according to Belkins' cold email benchmark study.
Belkins measures replies against all emails sent rather than emails opened, which is why the figure reads far lower than older open-based benchmarks.
Source: Belkins, 2026 ↗Cold emails sent through Hunter in 2025 earned an average 4.5% reply rate across 31 million emails analyzed, per Hunter's State of Email Outreach 2026 report.
Hunter's users skew toward small, targeted campaigns (average open rate 30%), so its benchmark runs higher than mass-volume datasets like Belkins'.
Source: Hunter, 2026 ↗Cold email sequences of three messages earn a 6.8% reply rate — roughly double the 3.3% of a single one-off email — in Hunter's 2026 analysis of 31 million outreach emails.
Three messages was the optimum in Hunter's data — longer sequences did not keep improving results.
Source: Hunter, 2026 ↗58% of all cold email replies come from the very first email in a sequence, according to Instantly's 2026 Cold Email Benchmark Report covering billions of emails sent in 2025.
Follow-ups still contribute the remaining 42% of replies, with 4–7 touchpoints cited as the optimal sequence length.
Source: Instantly, 2026 ↗80 million people now use Reddit's search every week, up from 60 million a year earlier, Reddit reported on its Q4 2025 earnings call.
Reddit is increasingly a native discovery surface, not just a Google intermediary — its AI-powered Reddit Answers grew from about 1 million to 15 million weekly queries over the same year.
Source: Search Engine Land, 2026 ↗50% of bootstrapped SaaS founders lean on communities and referrals as their main acquisition channels, reporting stronger customer lifetime value especially at the early stage, per the MicroConf State of Independent SaaS survey of nearly 700 founders analyzed by Freemius.
Source: Freemius / MicroConf, 2025 ↗Among bootstrapped SaaS founders who run paid ads, 57% either wait seven or more months to see ROI or cannot tell whether their ads are working at all, per the 2025 State of Micro-SaaS analysis of MicroConf's survey of nearly 700 founders.
Explains why indie founders overwhelmingly favor organic channels — 47% in the same survey say integrations, partnerships, communities, and forums became a more dependable source of growth.
Source: Freemius / MicroConf, 2025 ↗94% of B2B buying groups had already ranked their preferred vendors before first contacting any seller — and bought from that early favorite 77% of the time — in 6sense's 2025 survey of more than 4,000 buyers.
The decision is largely made during self-directed research — via peers, communities, and content — before a vendor ever gets a call, which is why early awareness beats late-stage selling.
Source: 6sense, 2025 ↗The median B2B SaaS company spent $2.00 in sales and marketing for every $1.00 of new-customer ARR in 2024, a customer acquisition cost ratio up 14% year over year, per Benchmarkit's 2025 SaaS Performance Metrics report.
The same report notes CAC payback periods have risen 12.5% at the median since 2022 — acquiring customers is getting steadily more expensive for SaaS.
Source: Benchmarkit, 2025 ↗First Page Sage's January 2026 benchmarks put the blended average customer acquisition cost for B2B SaaS at $239 per customer — $205 via organic channels versus $341 via paid.
Figures come from the SEO agency's own client dataset and skew toward self-serve motions — enterprise, sales-led SaaS CAC runs into the thousands of dollars.

Conversion, Activation & Churn
From visitor to signup to paying customer — the funnel benchmarks that tell you whether your numbers are normal, exceptional, or a leak.
The median free-to-paid conversion rate across 200 B2B software products is 8%, according to ChartMogul's SaaS Conversion Report (data collected January 2026).
Very few products actually sit at 8% — trial and freemium products cluster in very different ranges, and a typical free-trial product turns 1,000 website visitors into just 45 free signups and 3.6 paying customers.
Source: ChartMogul, 2026 ↗Free trials that require a credit card up front convert more than 5x better than opt-in trials without one — a 'good' trial-to-paid rate is 25–35% with a card versus 4–6% without, per ChartMogul's January 2026 analysis of 200 B2B software products.
Requiring a card also sharply reduces how many visitors start a trial at all — the higher rate applies to a much smaller pool.
Source: ChartMogul, 2026 ↗Traditional freemium SaaS products convert an average of 3.7% of free users into paying customers, based on First Page Sage data from 80+ freemium SaaS clients gathered between 2022 and 2026.
Rates vary by industry from 2.6% (EdTech) to 6.1% (LegalTech), and freemium upgrades accrue over months — far slower than trial conversions, which resolve in days.
Source: First Page Sage, 2026 ↗Sales-led SaaS companies average a 41.6% user activation rate versus 34.6% for product-led companies, according to Userpilot's Product Metrics Benchmark of 547 SaaS companies (2024).
Activation means reaching the product's defined value milestone after signup — so in both models, roughly six in ten signups never experience the product's core value.
Source: Userpilot, 2024 ↗The average onboarding checklist completion rate in SaaS is just 19.2%, per Userpilot's Product Metrics Benchmark of 547 SaaS companies (2024).
Roughly four in five new users abandon guided onboarding before finishing it; the best-performing vertical (fintech and insurance) still only reaches 24.5%.
Source: Userpilot, 2024 ↗Software businesses on the Recurly billing network show a median annual churn rate of 3.22%, with top-quartile performers at 1.78% or below (Recurly network data, July 2026).
Churn definitions and periods vary widely between sources, so compare like-for-like.
Source: Recurly Research, 2026 ↗Private B2B SaaS companies with contract values of $25K–$50K report median net revenue retention of 102%, with the top quartile at 111% and the bottom quartile at 97% (SaaS Capital, September 2025).
Higher net retention correlates with higher contract values, and companies with NRR of 110%+ beat the survey's 24% median growth rate.
Source: SaaS Capital, 2025 ↗Median net revenue retention for private B2B SaaS companies compressed to 101% in Benchmarkit's 2025 B2B SaaS Performance Metrics Benchmarks, published with Pavilion.
The same report puts median ARR growth at 26% and finds new-customer acquisition costs rose 14% year over year — making expansion revenue harder-won and more important.
Source: Benchmarkit / Pavilion, 2025 ↗Sean Ellis's product-market-fit benchmark, derived from surveying nearly 100 startups, holds that at least 40% of users must say they would be 'very disappointed' if they could no longer use your product before it can reliably grow (First Round Review, 2018).
A landmark heuristic rather than a statistical study: companies below the 40% threshold almost always struggled to grow, while those above it almost always had strong traction.

SEO & Organic Search
Google still sends more qualified traffic than any other channel — but fewer clicks leave the results page every year, and new pages fight a long, compounding game.
68.01% of U.S. Google searches ended without a click to any website in January–April 2026, up from 60.45% in 2024, according to SparkToro's analysis of Similarweb clickstream data.
Zero-click includes searches resolved on Google itself (AI Overviews, featured snippets, maps) and query refinements; SparkToro attributes the acceleration mainly to AI Overviews appearing on over 20% of searches.
Source: SparkToro, 2026 ↗The #1 organic result on Google captures 27.6% of clicks — nearly double position 2's 15.3% — according to Backlinko's analysis of 4 million search results.
The top three organic results together take 54.4% of all clicks, and moving from position 2 to position 1 lifts clicks by 74.5% on average.
Source: Backlinko, 2025 ↗96.55% of all web pages get zero organic search traffic from Google, according to Ahrefs' 2023 study of roughly 14 billion pages.
A further 1.94% of pages get just one to ten visits per month; the sample skews toward the higher-quality side of the web, so the true share may be even higher.
Source: Ahrefs, 2023 ↗Only 1.74% of newly published pages break into Google's top 10 within a year of going live, per Ahrefs' 2025 study of one million random new URLs.
Among new pages with actual non-empty English content the figure rises to 6.11% — still only about one page in sixteen.
Source: Ahrefs, 2025 ↗The average page ranking #1 on Google is five years old, and 72.9% of top-10 results are more than three years old, per Ahrefs' 2025 analysis of 1.3 million U.S. keywords.
Up from an average age of two years in Ahrefs' 2017 version of the same study — SEO is a compounding, long-horizon channel.
Source: Ahrefs, 2025 ↗Organic search traffic converts visitors into leads at 2.6% on average for B2B companies, versus 1.5% for paid search and 0.9% for paid social, per First Page Sage's 2025 conversion-rate-by-channel benchmarks.
Based on the agency's own client data collected 2018–2024; conversion is defined as leads divided by visitors from that channel over one year.
Source: First Page Sage, 2025 ↗B2B SaaS SEO campaigns return an average 702% ROI over three years and break even around month seven, per First Page Sage's analysis of client campaigns run from Q1 2021 to Q3 2025.
Figures come from campaigns at an SEO agency, so they reflect companies investing seriously and consistently in SEO.
Source: First Page Sage, 2025 ↗Private B2B SaaS companies spend a median 8% of annual recurring revenue on marketing, according to SaaS Capital's 2026 survey of more than 1,000 SaaS companies.
Equity-backed SaaS companies spend roughly double what bootstrapped ones do; this covers all marketing, of which SEO and content is typically one slice.
Source: SaaS Capital, 2026 ↗Google handles more than 5 trillion searches per year, according to Google's own disclosure in a March 2025 blog post — its first official volume figure since 'more than 2 trillion' in 2016.
That works out to roughly 14 billion searches per day — search demand keeps growing even as AI assistants rise.

Source: G2, 2026 ↗AI search made up just 0.5% of Ahrefs' website traffic over 30 days but drove 12.1% of its signups — a conversion rate 23x higher than traditional organic search (Ahrefs, 2025).
Single-company case study of Ahrefs' own analytics; most of the AI-search signups came from ChatGPT.
Source: Ahrefs, 2025 ↗In February 2026, organic CTR was 2.36% when a Google AI Overview appeared versus 3.82% without one — a 38% drop — per Seer Interactive's analysis of 2.43 billion organic impressions across 53 brands.
Being cited inside the AI Overview delivers +120% more organic clicks per impression than not being cited, but still underperforms AIO-free results.
Source: Seer Interactive, 2026 ↗Adding quotations, statistics, and source citations to a page can boost its visibility in generative engine responses by up to 40%, per Princeton's GEO study presented at KDD 2024.

Source: Princeton University (KDD 2024), 2024 ↗100% of the SaaS tools ChatGPT recommended for high-intent 'alternatives' queries had reviews on Capterra and 99% had reviews on G2 (Quoleady, 2026).
Review platforms act as an inclusion gate rather than a citation source — presence correlates with being recommended even though the platforms themselves are rarely cited.
Source: Quoleady, 2026 ↗97% of llms.txt files received zero requests in May 2026, per an Ahrefs analysis of 137,210 domains — even though 28% of those domains had published one.
Of the few files that were fetched, 77% of the reading bots were not AI tools at all; no major LLM provider has committed to using llms.txt.

Directories & Launch Platforms
What a launch actually delivers — and how much of B2B buying runs through directories and review platforms before a vendor ever hears about it.
An analysis of 76,822 Product Hunt launches found the median launch earns just 104 upvotes, and a product needs 246 or more upvotes to place in the top 25% (Datastam, 2025).
The mean is 214.5 upvotes because a handful of viral launches (up to 21,798 upvotes) skew the distribution far above the typical result.
Source: Datastam, 2025 ↗Dub.co's Product Hunt launch — which won #1 Product of the Day, Week, and Month — drove just over 2,000 unique visitors and 663 new signups on launch day, an 8x jump over its daily average (Dub).
A single case study of a launch backed by a 25,000-subscriber email list — a useful ceiling for expectations, since most launches see far less.
Source: Dub, 2026 ↗When researchers asked ChatGPT discovery-style questions like 'what are the best AI tools launched this year,' top-500 Product Hunt startups surfaced in only 3.32% of answers — even though the same model recognized them 99.4% of the time when asked by name (arXiv, 2026).
Based on 2,240 queries across 112 startups; Perplexity surfaced them in 8.29% of discovery queries, and referring domains (r = +0.319) — not GEO tricks — best predicted AI visibility.
Source: arXiv, 2026 ↗Product Hunt hosted 160,143 product launches between April 2020 and July 2025 — roughly 2,500 a month competing for the same front page, according to an academic dataset (arXiv, 2026).
The same study finds launch volume jumped sharply after ChatGPT's release, driven disproportionately by solo founders, while team-built products still dominate the top rankings.
Source: arXiv, 2026 ↗74% of B2B technology buyers use reviews to inform their purchase decisions, according to TrustRadius's 2026 B2B Buying Disconnect survey of 1,862 buyers.
Surveyed in January 2026 about purchases made over the prior year; by contrast, analyst-report usage fell to just 13%, down 63% since 2022.
Source: TrustRadius, 2026 ↗Review sites (38%) overtook AI chatbots (37%) as the top source shaping which vendors make a B2B buyer's shortlist, per G2's 2026 Buyer Behavior Report.
Based on a survey of more than 1,000 B2B software buyers and decision-makers plus interviews with 50+ sales and marketing leaders.
Source: G2, 2026 ↗Among software buyers at companies with 5,000+ employees, 61% use software review sites to research purchases — more than the 53% who use Google — per G2's 2025 Buyer Behavior Report.
At small companies (1–250 employees) the pattern reverses — 47% use Google versus 38% using review sites — so review platforms matter most for reaching larger buyers.
Source: G2, 2025 ↗Launch platform Uneed self-reports 737,337 visits and 2.35 million page views for 2026, and gives every launched product a DR 75 dofollow backlink.
Self-reported figures displayed on uneed.best as of August 2026; the site also claims a community of 85,000 makers.
Source: Uneed, 2026 ↗G2 says more than 200 million buyers visit its software marketplace annually, browsing 200,000+ listed products and services across 2,000+ categories.
Self-reported scale figures from G2's company About page; a free listing on major review marketplaces puts a product in front of this in-market audience.
Source: G2, 2026 ↗Producthunt.com recorded 3.6 million total visits over the three months ending July 2026, with a 47.2% bounce rate and 3.66 pages per visit, per Similarweb's public traffic data.
As displayed on Similarweb's free dashboard, which also showed traffic down about 13% month over month — worth knowing before betting a launch entirely on Product Hunt.

Content Marketing & Link Magnets
Which content earns links — and why statistics pages exist at all. The format you are reading right now is the best-documented link magnet in content marketing.
The 15 statistics pages featured in Digitaloft's 2026 analysis have earned more than 8,000 backlinks from over 4,300 referring domains between them, with one sales-statistics page alone attracting links from 800+ domains.
Analysis of live Ahrefs link data by digital PR agency Digitaloft — writers googling for a number to cite link to whichever page has it, sourced and dated.
Source: Digitaloft, 2026 ↗94% of all blog posts earn zero external links, and only 2.2% attract links from more than one website, according to Backlinko and BuzzSumo's analysis of 912 million blog posts.
Landmark large-scale study; 'external links' here means backlinks pointing at the post from other websites.
Source: Backlinko, 2019 ↗Blog content longer than 3,000 words earns an average of 77.2% more referring-domain links than content shorter than 1,000 words (Backlinko/BuzzSumo analysis of 912 million posts).
The same study found long-form performance plateaus: posts of 1,000–2,000 words captured most of the social-share advantage.
Source: Backlinko, 2019 ↗39% of bloggers who publish articles of 2,000+ words report strong results from blogging — nearly double the 21% average across all 808 content marketers in Orbit Media's 2025 survey.

Source: Orbit Media, 2025 ↗31% of content marketing teams now budget between $15,000 and $45,000 per month, while the share spending under $5,000 per month has fallen from 48% in 2023 to 25% (Siege Media survey of 353 marketers, 2026).
Source: Siege Media, 2026 ↗Digital PR delivers the strongest link building results according to 20% of the 800+ SEO professionals in uSERP's 2025 State of Backlinks survey, ahead of content marketing (18%) and guest posting (12%).
The same survey found 46.5% of respondents allocate $5,000–$10,000 per month to link building.
Source: uSERP, 2025 ↗86% of journalists say they will immediately reject a PR pitch that isn't aligned with their beat or audience, per Cision's 2025 State of the Media survey of more than 3,000 journalists across 19 markets.
Explains why generic link outreach fails: journalists still value press material, but only when it carries something new like original data or exclusives.
Source: Cision, 2025 ↗B2B buyers are 61% of the way through their buying journey before they first contact a seller — down from 69% in 2024 — according to 6sense's 2025 Buyer Experience Report based on nearly 4,000 buyer responses.
The vendor contacted first still wins roughly 8 out of 10 deals, so the pre-contact content research phase largely decides the outcome.
Source: 6sense, 2025 ↗B2B buyers now wait an average of 39 hours between registering for a piece of content and actually consuming it, a gap that widened 23% year over year (NetLine 2025 report, based on 8 million content registrations).
First-party behavioral data, not survey answers: the 'Consumption Gap' grew from 31 to 39 hours between 2023 and 2024.
