What is SpriteGen?
Game developers typing a character description and action into SpriteGen receive a live animated loop and a downloadable sprite sheet in about a minute. The toolkit runs entirely in the browser and provides two artificial intelligence creators alongside three utility tools for editing and packing pixel art.
Character and Sprite Generation
The AI Sprite Creator turns text descriptions into characters with actions such as idle, walk, run, jump, attack, cast, hurt, death, or fly. Creators choose from twelve built-in visual styles split between pixel art modes like 16-bit, retro handheld, and cozy pixel, and illustrated options like modern cartoon, action anime, and 3D toon. Four camera views establish the perspective before generation starts. Outputs emerge as transparent PNG files containing 6, 8, or 12 evenly spaced frames, ready to import directly into game engines. A secondary AI Sprite Maker draws single items, icons, or non-player characters as individual transparent PNGs at resolutions from 16 to 128 pixels.
Browser Editing and Packing Tools
Beyond AI generation, the site includes free browser utilities that operate without an account. The GIF to Sprite Sheet tool decodes animated GIFs into separate frames and exports a combined PNG grid. The Sprite Sheet Maker packs independently uploaded frame images into a single sheet, while the Pixel Art Maker opens a drawing canvas up to 256 by 256 pixels with drawing shapes, mirror symmetry, and an onion skin timeline supporting up to 64 animation frames. Free trial generations run without sign-up behind a security check, and paid tiers add recurring monthly credits or one-time top-up packs.
