What is CodexTheme Tools?
Custom themes for Codex Desktop come together locally in the browser when users drop in a PNG, JPEG, or WebP wallpaper up to 20 MB. The selected image never leaves the local machine. The application extracts color palettes from the wallpaper or translates a text brief into editable theme controls using an AI draft generator. Adjustments cover zoom, position, brightness, contrast, saturation, blur, overlay darkness, vignette, surface opacities, corner radius, shadow strength, and text brightness.
Reviewing readability and workspace views
Readability metrics measure contrast ratios across sidebar, cards, and composer views against an AA target. The interface provides five preview modes: Home, Task, Diff, Terminal, and Settings. A composer stress test renders the longest user prompts in the live preview to verify text clarity across dark, light, and high-contrast variants. A six-step publish readiness checklist tracks preset selection, readability checks, preview mode visits, data exports, and installation and restore acknowledgments.
Exporting data bundles and manual values
Four distinct export targets generate data-only files without modifying the Codex app or running an installer. CodexTheme Tools supplies a copyable codex-theme-v1: payload for Settings, Appearance, and Import. Manual appearance colors supply raw base, accent, background, and foreground values for manual entry. The Codex CLI exports a TextMate .tmTheme syntax file for placement under the $CODEX_HOME/themes directory. Finally, a recipe package saves the wallpaper configuration for future sessions.
