What is UntilFire?
Three steps between you and your date
Income, spending, and savings go into UntilFire to produce an estimated freedom date, showing the exact year work becomes optional. Users enter a few numbers to see their timeline, test decision sliders to understand what changes shorten it, and find one actionable next step. The tool collects your own income and expenses directly in the calculator.
Calculations rely on a 25 times spending target and modeled annual contributions. By default, the math assumes a 6.9 percent real annual growth rate based on the S&P 500 since 1928, with all figures presented in current dollars. The interface also displays cost-of-living estimates drawn from a 392-city dataset, mapping out whether specific locations are ready for FIRE based on a one-million-dollar portfolio.
Start free, stay for the plan
Basic freedom date calculations, decision sliders, and shareable result cards work without creating an account. The optional Pro subscription adds ranked next moves by time saved, tailored action plans derived from spending data, progress tracking and reports, and unlimited bank and brokerage synchronization. Users can export all transactions as a spreadsheet or download their entire data profile at any time from the profile menu, where account deletion is also available.
